Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati is all set to host the 2020 National Inter District Junior Athletics Meet (NIDJAM.)

After the 17th edition of NIDJAM 2019 was held in Chittoor this year, the Athletic Federation of India (AFI) decided to host the next edition in Tirupati as well.  The 17th edition of NIDJAM started on the 23rd of November and continued till the 25th of November.

On the 25th of November, the AFI conducted the valedictory session of NIDJAM 2019.

During the event, Madhukanth Pathak, the Joint Secretary of the AFI, said the 17th edition of NIDJAM was extremely successful, with 503 districts from across India participating in it.

Mr. Pathak said Chittoor conducted the event extraordinarily well and asked for Tirupati to be declared as NIDJAM’s permanent venue.  The 2020 edition of NIDJAM would be the third time Tirupati hosts the event.

B. Karunakar Reddy, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Chittoor, who was the chief guest at the event, expects Tirupati to be a bigger venue than Haridwar, which hosted NIDJAM for 10 long years.

Mr. Reddy said, “I will convince Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) to extend its full cooperation for this event. The city has almost eight universities, comprehensive police set up and efficient district administration to take care of the event well. I request the AFI to organise it here for the next 10 years.”

Dr. Gajarao Bhupal, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Urban and P.S. Girisha, the Corporation Commissioner, said they would try to make it the best event by conducting a ‘plastic free NIDJAM’ and ‘Swachh NIDJAM.’

K. Santha Reddy, the President of the Association District Olympic and Dr. N. Bharat Gupta, the District Collector, spoke at the event and thanked all the educational institutions, officials, NSS volunteers and others which cooperated with the organisers for the event’s success.

V.R. Chandra Mouli, the Joint Collector II, S. Lakshmi, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of District Sports Authority, Prudhvi Tej, the Trainee Collector and other officials attended the event.

The event was held on the 25th of November at the SV University Stadium grounds in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh (AP.)
