The Amaravati Joint Action Committee (JAC) demanded the Andhra Pradesh Government scrap the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS.)

The Amaravati JAC is an association of government employees, teachers, workers and retired employees in Andhra Pradesh.

On the 17th of October, the Amaravati JAC leaders met L.V. Subramanyam, the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh (AP) and submitted a memorandum about the same.

According to the CPS, government employees would get a pension based on their contributions from their income.  The Amaravati JAC is demanding the CPS be scrapped and the old pension scheme be restored.

The AP Government launched the CPS on the 1st of September 2004.  Since then, thousands of government officials are demanding the revocation of the CPS.

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, during his election campaign, assured to scrap the CPS in the State.  However, the scheme is still in effect.

In the memorandum, the JAC leaders demanded the retirement age of contract employees be changed from 58 years to 60 years.  Apart from this, they also demanded the regularisation of contract and outsourcing staff and the merging of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) with the Government.

T.V. Phani Perraju, the Secretary of the Amaravati JAC, V.V. Murali, G. V. Narayana Reddy, D. Eswar and Mehraj Sultana were the leaders who met L.V. Subramanyam and submitted the memorandum.
