Andhra Pradesh Government Declares Online Admissions For Degree Colleges Amid COVID-19

The Andhra Pradesh Government declared to conduct online admissions in degree colleges for 2020-2021 academic year. 

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (AP) decided for online admission in the wake of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 outbreak in the State.

According to sources, students seeking admissions in degree colleges should have 40% marks. In addition for the Scheduled Caste (SC) and the Scheduled Tribe (STs) the marks for admission is 36 %. Satish Chandra, the Special Secretary of the Higher Education Department of A.P., on the 15th of October, issued an order regarding the same.

The online admissions for degree colleges would be conducted in government, private and autonomous degree colleges from the academic year 2020-2021.

As much as 85% of the seats in the degree would be allotted to locals and 15% of the seats would be allotted to non locals. The reservation policy would also be implemented for admissions in private colleges in Andhra Pradesh.

According to the Andhra Pradesh Government orders, 10% of the total seats would be allocated as EWS (Economically Weaker Section) class along with ‌ 33.33% reservation to women in each course.

In addition, 1% of the seats would be for the NCC quota, respectively. Besides this, for candidates willing to study Commerce as a subject in Intermediate will be allotted 60% seats in B.Com., at the state level and for those who have studied Social Science and Humanities in Intermediate 50% seats would be allotted in B.A., courses.

The local reservations are stipulated as follows:

The students from Chittoor, Kadapa, Kurnool, Anantapur and Nellore districts are considered as locals for admissions under Sri Venkateswara, Sri Krishnadevaraya, Yogi Vemana, Rayalaseema and Vikrama Simhapuri Universities and those from Prakasam, Guntur, Krishna, West Godavari, East Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts are considered as locals for admissions under Andhra, Acharya Nagarjuna, Adikavi Nannaya and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Universities.

The online admissions for educational universities would begin from the 2nd of November and classes for students of first year degree would begin from the 18th of November.
