Andhra Pradesh Government Estimates Damaged Crops Spread In 71,821 Hectares Due To Rain

In the past few days, the heavy rainfall caused damage to properties, buses, lives and crops in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Since the 10th of October, both the Telugu states are witnessing incessant rains and lost nearly 35 lives so far.

Since the rain happened in October, the harvesting season for the crops, farmers faced immense loss of crops.

The Andhra Pradesh Government estimated damage of 71,821 hectares with the submerging fields.

The highest damage was to the paddy crop at 54,694 hectares while damage to the cotton crop was at 12,000 hectares.

In addition, the highest number of crop failures were in Godavari districts, followed by East Godavari (29,000,) West Godavari (13,900,) Krishna (12,466) and Visakhapatnam (4,400.)

The estimated crop damage prepared by the Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Department id said to be preliminary.

However, an official estimate of rain affected areas, conditions and crop loss is yet to come.

According to concerned officials of the Agriculture authorities, heavy crop damage was reported in Godavari, Visakhapatnam and Krishna districts. Approximately 24 varieties of crops were reported damaged in almost 9 districts of Andhra Pradesh.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) heavy rainfall is likely to continue for two more days in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

People residing in the low lying areas were asked to evacuate and shift to relief camps organised by the State Government. In addition, citizens of Andhra Pradesh were asked not to venture out if not necessary and to stay indoors.
