The Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) High Court, on the 27th of August, extended the imposed status quo on the State’s three capitals bills.

During the hearing on a petition filed against the decentralisation of development and Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) Repeal Bills 2020.

The imposed status quo on the bills and three capitals have been extended till the 21st of September.

The Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Biswabhushan Harichandan approved the three capitals proposal in July. However, the matter was pending with the A.P. High Court since the 4th of August. The last hearing regarding the same was held on the 14th of August.

On the 14th of August, a bench of three judges extended the status quo imposed on the approved bill.

The petition was filed by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Amaravati along with Amaravati farmers.

The farmers of the 29 villages of Amaravati district are against the three capitals and are protesting against the same.

While the A.P., High Court extended the status quo, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court against the status quo. However, the SC was of no relief to the YSRCP, as on the 26th of August, the SC dismissed the petition and refused to interfere as the matter was pending with the A.P. HC.

With these updates, the High Court adjourned the case till the 21st of September.

The Court also asked Nilam Sawhney, the Chief Secretary to the State to file a counter reply on behalf of the YSRCP Government by the 10th of September.

The next hearing on the three capitals bills is scheduled on the 21st of September.

Stay tuned for further updates.
