On the 14th of December, the opposition parties and women activists protested and criticised the AP Government for rape of a 5 year old.   

JanaSena Party leaders staged a protest against the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) as the incident took place within 24 hours of the implementation of the A.P. Disha Act, 2019.

On the 11th of December, a minor, identified as Tadipatri Lakshman Reddy, allegedly raped the five year old girl. 

The victim is a resident of Nagarampalem and stays with her mother and grandmother.  The incident took place when the victim’s mother, a nurse, was at work and her grandmother went to a market.  The accused got a chance and took the girl to his room, raped her and dropped her back at her residence. He even threatened the girl and asked not to tell anyone about the incident. not to tell about the incident to anyone.

The victim’s mother found out about the gruesome act when the 5 year old complained about severe pain in her lower abdomen.  When the mother asked the girl, she revealed about the act of the accused.

The 5 year old’s mother immediately registered a complaint at the Nagarpalem Guntur Police Station and rushed the girl to the Guntur Government Hospital (GGH) for a medical test.  The Police arrested the accused and registered a case against him.

 Though the incident took place on the 11th of December, it came to light after many women activists reached the GGH and staged a protest.  They questioned the Government saying, “Will the Government encounter Lakshman Reddy or take up the legal route?” 

Soon, political parties like the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) the JanaSena and the Indian National Congress (INC) criticised the AP Government and asked what action would be taken against the accused.

Vasireddy Padma, the Chairperson of the AP Women’s Commission, reached the hospital where the victim is undergoing treatment and assured justice to the victim.

The A.P.,  Government took the case under the A.P. Disha Act, 2019, with the assurance that the case would be closed within 21 days.
