Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) on the 17th of December, announced the State would have three capitalsVisakhapatnam, Amaravati and Kurnool.

On the last day of the Winter Session of the A.P., Assembly, Y.S. Jagan said the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) decided Andhra Pradesh would have 3 capitals.

While the legislative capital is expected to be Amaravati, the executive capital is likely to be Visakhapatnam and Kurnool would be the judiciary capital.  Jagan Mohan Reddy said if the Government establishes Visakhapatnam as the legislative capital, they would not have to spend money on infrastructure as Visakhapatnam is already developed.

Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “We can think in terms of having three capitals one being the legislative capital and the other being executive and judicial capitals. A reputed Consultancy firm will also give its report and a decision would be taken after discussing the details and logistics.”  He further added having three State capitals would be a step towards the development of Andhra Pradesh and would ensure the overall development of the State.

Jagan Mohan Reddy said Chandrababu Naidu, the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, developed 53,000 acres of land for the capital region at a cost of Rs. 1.09 lakh crores.  Buggana Rajendra Nath, the Finance Minister of India, said the YSRCP’s priorities are different as it wants to improve the education system, the farmers’ situation in AP and the infrastructure.

Jagan Mohan Reddy further said the YSRCP would come up with a final decision within two weeks.  Besides, Jagan Mohan Reddy also constituted an expert committee to study the proposal and prepare a report about the same.

However, a final announcement about Andhra Pradesh having 3 capitals is yet to be made.

Stay tuned for further updates.
