On the 2nd of May, results of the Tirupati by election were declared.  In the Tirupati Lok Sabha by election, Dr. Maddila Gurumoorthy, of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) secured the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) seat.

The YSRCP candidate won the polls with a huge majority of 2,71,592 votes against the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) candidate Panabaka Lakshmi. 

K.V.N.Chakradhar Babu, the Returning Officer (RO) and District Collector of Nellore district said the YSRCP candidate secured close to 6,26,108 votes, followed by the TDP candidate with 3,54,516 votes.    The YSRCP candidate won with a margin of 2,71,592 votes. In addition, the alliance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the JanaSena Party candidate K. Ratna Prabha managed only 57,080 votes after 25 rounds of counting. 

As many as 28 candidates including former Union Minister and Congress candidate Chinta Mohan were in the fray for the by election.  The Tirupati by poll was held on the 17th of April. 

Meanwhile, in the wake of the rising number of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases, the YSRCP strictly instructed not to hold victory celebrations.   He said, as per the Election Commission of India (ECI) no rallies and victory celebrations would be held as per COVID rules.
