Comedian Ali, on the 11th of March, joined the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP,) ahead of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections.
Ali, who was in news for a while, finally ended all the speculations about joining politics and joined the YSRCP.
According to sources, the decision came after a meeting which was held, on the 10th of March, at the residence of Jagan Mohan Reddy, the President of the YSRCP.
Ali addresses media and said, “I did not get a proper assurance from the TDP leadership and so I joined YSRCP. I’m willing to contest from Vijayawada or Rajahmundry if party gives ticket. I got a word from Jagan and I know he will stick to his word.”
When asked about why he did not choose to join JanaSena Party, Ali replied, friendship and politics are different and he wishes success to Pawan Kalyan, the President of the JanaSena Party.
Ali will soon start campaigning for the YSRCP, ahead of the Assembly elections.
The joining of comedian Ali can be an advantage for the YSRCP. On the contrary, it could be a drawback for the Telugu Desam Party (TDP.)
Recently, many TDP leaders switched party, citing their disappointment and differences with N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, as a reason.
Andhra Pradesh will contest a total of 175 seats in the upcoming Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, scheduled between April and May 2019.
The major parties contesting the Assembly elections are the YSRCP, the TDP and the JanaSena Party.
