Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister (CM) of West Bengal, on the 31st of March, addressed a public meeting with N. Chandrababu Naidu, the CM of Andhra Pradesh (AP,) in Visakhapatnam, AP.

The rally was conducted as a part of the campaign strategy of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) ahead of the AP Assembly elections and Lok Sabha elections.

During the rally, Ms. Banerjee criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for their failed Government and held them responsible for the destruction of the Nation. She further urged the citizens of Andhra Pradesh to vote for the right Party and defeat the PM Modi led BJP.

Ms. Banerjee said, “This is a special election. You must think through who you vote for… We will not let Modi win. Delhi will have Janata’s sarkar (government of the people)… You don’t worry after we win, we will have a PM candidate.”

Ms. Banerjee further said, PM Modi’s Government is the most corrupt one in India. She also criticised Amit Shah, the President of the BJP, and said he “divided the Nation on religious lines in just five years (sic.)”

Similar to Rahul Gandhi, the President of the Indian National Congress (INC,) Mamata Banerjee also challenged PM Modi to conduct a press conference and have a public debate to answer all the questions of the citizens of India.

Ms. Banerjee said, “Modi ji, you have never done a press conference. Why don’t you come for a debate instead? If they can do it abroad, why don’t we do one here?”

The campaign was launched to support the TDP and its President, N. Chandrababu Naidu, in the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in AP.

Apart from Mamata Banerjee, politicians such as Arvind Kejriwal, the CM of Delhi, and Farooq Abdullah, the President of the National Conference Party, also held campaigns and supported the TDP.

The TDP, which is the ruling Government of Andhra Pradesh, stands as a strong Party and is a tough competitor for the other major parties contesting the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

Andhra Pradesh will contest a total of 175 seats and 25 seats in the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections respectively. The elections in the State are scheduled on the 11th of April.

The major parties contesting the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and Lok Sabha elections are the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP,) the JanaSena Party and the TDP.

The results of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and Lok Sabha elections will be declared on the 23rd of May 2019.
