Gopal Krishna Dwivedi, the Chief Election Officer of Andhra Pradesh, on the 16th of April, sent a recommendation letter to the Election Commission of India (ECI) with a demand of conducting re elections in Andhra Pradesh.

After several complaints by N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, the CEO of AP considered the complaint and agreed for re elections at 5 centres.

The 5 centres where the elections will be held again include 1 booth in Prakasam district and 2 each in Nellore and Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.

On the 11th of April, Andhra Pradesh conducted its Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, however, the elections were not conducted smoothly. Due to this, Naidu demanded the re elections.

During the AP elections, approximately 380 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) malfunctioned and 25 violence cases were registered in AP.

The Election Commission (EC) of Andhra Pradesh failed to conduct smooth polls and did not meet the security demands. During the violence, Siddha Bhaskar Reddy, a Telugu Desam Party member, lost his life.

The voters also faced difficulties due to the glitches in the EVMs.

Considering all these issues, the CEO collected a report from the District Collectors and proposed re elections. The re elections are said to be a good chance for the major parties in AP to win the elections.

The major parties which contested the AP Assembly and Lok Sabha elections were the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP,) the TDP and the JanaSena Party.

The Election Commission of India will soon announce the dates of the re elections at the 5 centres in Prakasam, Nellore and Guntur.

Stay tuned for further updates about the AP Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
