The Andhra Pradesh (AP) Assembly officials, on the 26th of August, recovered computers, furniture and other belongings of the AP Assembly at a showroom owned by Kodela Sivaprasad Rao’s son.

The items were recovered from a bike showroom which is owned by Kodela’s son, Sivarama Krishna Prasad in Guntur. A total of 70 items were recovered from the showroom, which were transferred to the Assembly on the night of the 26th of August in a lorry.

Kodela Siva Prasad Rao, the former Speaker of the AP Assembly, allegedly kept the furniture and other items of the AP Assembly at his residence without permission. Kodela shifted the belongings of the AP Assembly at his residence when they were shifted from Hyderabad to Amaravati.

However, Kodela tried to justify the act and said his intentions were good behind keeping the furniture and other items at his residence. He said, “The furniture and computers would have got spoilt in the temporary premises, and I only shifted them to ensure their protection. I am ready to hand over the furniture or whatever cash they require.”

According to sources, Mr Siva Prasad Rao moved the High Court and asked them to direct the state government to take away the furniture from his office.

In defence. Rao also said, this is not the first time, he asked the State Assembly to take away furniture. He wrote to Assembly officials in June but, State Assembly did not take any action for the same.

M. Eswara Rao, a Section Officer of the AP Assembly, filed a complaint with the Thullur Police Station in Guntur. The AP Police registered the case under Section 409 (criminal breach of trust by a public servant) and Section 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property.)

Apart from Eswara Rao, Gopireddy Srinivasa Reddy, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Narasaraopet constituency, on the 22nd of August, also filed a complaint against Kodela regarding the same.

Apart from these two cases, the AP Police is also investigating about the missing computers from the residence of Kodela, which he said was stolen by a few thieves.

On the 23rd of August, a day after the AP Assembly alleged Siva Prasad for stealing Assembly furniture, two thieves entered the residence of Kodela Siva Prasada Rao and stole two computers, which belonged to the AP Assembly.

Although the watchman said it was a robbery, the incident raised several questions about Kodela Siva Prasada Rao.

The investigation regarding the case is underway, whereas, the High Court will hear the case filed by Kodela Siva Prasad Rao on the 27th of August.

Stay tuned for further updates.
