AP Budget Session 2020-2021 Begins Amid Covid-19

The Andhra Pradesh Assembly Budget session began on the 16th of June. 

The short Budget session began with the address of the State Governor Biswa Bhushan Harichandan to the joint sitting of the Legislative and the Council Assembly. 

With this, Biswabhusan Harichandan would be the first Governor of any Indian state to address the Assembly through video conference.

Andhra Pradesh also becomes the first State ro conduct the annual budget session amid the Novel Coronavirus outbreak in India. 

After the address of the State Governor, Buganna Rajendranath, the Finance Minister of A.P., would table the budget for the year 2020-2021.

Initially the budget session was expected to be held in March.  However, due to the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) postponed the session. 

Before the budget session started, the YSRCP called for a Cabinet meeting ahead of the session to approve the budget. 

The meeting was held at the A.P., secretariat at 9:00 A.M.

The Government is likely to introduce new bills on the 17th of June.

While the discussion and mock polling for the Rajya Sabha elections would be held on the 18th of June.

The first phase of the Rajya Sabha elections are scheduled to be held on the 19th of June. 

Meanwhile, the State Government made all the necessary arrangements considering the social distancing, medical arrangements, thermal screening and face masks are mandatory. 

On the other hand,  Government Chief Whip G.Srikanth Reddy said the Business Advisory Committee would meet on the 16th of June and decide on the duration of the session.
