Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, on the 11th of May, announced compensation for the families of victims who lost their lives in the recent Tirupati RUIA incident.

On the night of the 10th of May, 11 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) patients died at the SVR RUIA Hospital, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. According to sources, the death was due to the disrupted oxygen supply for patients. The oxygen tanker which was scheduled to come from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, got delayed, leading to 11 deaths.

Hari Narayanan, the District Collector of Tirupati, said, “The incident occurred around 8-8.30 p.m. Due to oxygen pressure issues, some Covid patients who were on ventilator support lost their lives. This happened in a span of five minutes.. the oxygen tanker arrived and the situation was quickly brought under control.”

Condemning the tragic incident, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) announced an ex gratia of Rs. 10 lakhs.

The announcement was made during a video conference with collectors and superintendents of police (SPs) on the steps to be taken on beds and oxygen shortage in A.P.

On this occasion, he said we have to take responsibility for things that are not in our hands.He said that the oxygen tanker from Tamil Nadu did not arrive on time and eleven people died at the hospital and recalled that they sent 6 tankers on a flight to Odisha.

Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “We buy oxygen abroad and ship it and trying in other ways to avoid oxygen shortage.” He reiterated that we are in a situation where we have to live with covid. All collectors should be vigilant and show humanity; the problems caused by covid‌ have to be dealt with by humanity as some people are committing atrocities for political reasons. (Sic.)”

The YSRCP Government asked for a detailed report and ordered an investigation in the matter.
