Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) on the 8th of February, inaugurated a one of a kind police station in the State.

For the first time in the Country, a police station was established in the name of a rape victim.  Recently, after the brutal Disha rape and murder incident in Telangana, the A.P., Government passed an Act named after Disha, the victim in the Telangana case, for cases related to sexual harassment, molestation and rape.

According to the Andhra Pradesh Disha Act, 2019, cases of atrocities against women must be heard and closed within 21 days and death penalty must be given in the required cases.

The Government also made amendments to the Andhra Pradesh Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2019 and the Andhra Pradesh Special Court for Specified Offences Against Women and Children Act, 2019.

On the 8th of February, Jagan Mohan Reddy inaugurated a special Disha police station in Rajamahendravaram at 10:30 A.M., and launched a Disha mobile app as well. 

 Disha police station each would also be launched in East Godavari and Kakinada.  In total, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) would set up a total of 18 Disha police stations in Andhra Pradesh.

Gautam Sawang, the Director General of Police (DGP) of A.P., said 52 police officials of different cadres would be appointed at every Disha police station.  

Besides the police stations, the State Government would also set up forensic labs and dedicated fast track courts with appointed prosecutors and other arrangements for the implementation of the Disha Act, 2019.

YSRCP Ministers, A.P., Police officials, A.P. Home Minister M. Sucharitha and other top officials were present during the inauguration event.
