The Andhra Pradesh Government, with the aim of establishing a transparent and unbiased Government, issued orders to abolish the Janmabhoomi committees in Andhra Pradesh (A.P.)

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, on the 12th of December decided to abolish the Committees which were set up by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP.)

In 2014, when the TDP was in power, they constituted the Committees, which played a crucial role in the implementation of welfare schemes launched by the A.P., Government.  These committees were responsible for verifying the beneficiaries of the schemes at district, municipal, zonal and village levels.

The committees were set up at all the four levels to select the eligible citizens of A.P., for the schemes.  However, when the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) came to power, they alleged the TDP set committees are benefitting only TDP workers and activists and discriminating against other eligible individuals while selecting beneficiaries.

Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy selected ward/village volunteers for the selection of beneficiaries at ground level.

Though the Janmabhoomi committees were not in action after the YSRCP came to power upon winning the 2019 Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, they were not abolished.  However, now, the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led YSRCP directed the concerned officials to issue a government order regarding the abolition of the Committees in Andhra Pradesh.

The decision was taken during a meeting with YSRCP officials in Andhra Pradesh.
