On the 15th of July, the Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) Government announced reservations in the education and employment sector.

According to sources, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government announced 10% reservation for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category. The new reservations would benefit the Kapu community mostly, which doesn’t get any benefits under the separate EWS quota or Backward Class (BC) welfare schemes and reservations in both education and employment zones. The announcement was made as per the special quota made by the Central Government under the Constitution 103 Amendment Act.

With the special quota, 10 % seats for education and jobs would be secured for EWS people in Andhra Pradesh. The new reservations of 10 % would be applicable to government colleges, institutions of A.P., starting from the academic year 2021-2022.

In addition to this, the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led YSRCP Government also announced 8 lakh per annum salary from the previous 5 lakh per annum salary for eligible candidates under the EWS quota.

The Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh, Adityanath Das issued a government order (G.O.,) regarding the new announcement with immediate effect. He also listed the guidelines and eligibility criteria for the new reservation quota.

Speaking about the guidelines, individuals who are not enjoying benefits of the Scheduled Tribes (STs,) Scheduled Castes (SCs) and other socially and economically weaker section schemes and reservations, would fall under this new 10 % reservations.

In addition, people with below Rs. 8 lakh per annum income would be under the EWS quota and would get benefits. However, their source of income should be job (salary based,) agriculture or any other form of business profession. Speaking about the family, eligible person, his/her parents, spouse, siblings and children would get the benefits of the EWS reservations too.

Also, 1/3rd of the initial job appointments and posts under the Government would be given to women.

Finally, the individual should have an EWS certificate provided by their concerned Tahsildars, only then they would get the benefits.
