The Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) Government allocated Rs. 23 crores for the implementation of Disha Act, 2019 in the State.
Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) approved the amount.
M. Sucharitha, the Home Minister of A.P., announced the allocation of the amount on the 26th of December and said, “We will strengthen the women police stations and take steps to ensure quick justice.”
According to the A.P., Disha Act, 2019, cases of atrocities against women must be heard and closed within 21 days and death penalty must be given in the required cases.
The Government also made amendments to the Andhra Pradesh Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2019 and the Andhra Pradesh Special Court for Specified Offences Against Women and Children Act, 2019.
The decision to allocate the amount was taken after a review meeting regarding the Act with M. Sucharitha, Gautam Sawang, the Director General of Police (DGP) and other top officials.
Ms. Sucharitha said the A.P., Government would soon issue a notification regarding the setting up of forensic labs and dedicated fast track courts and the appointment of prosecutors, amongst other arrangements, for the implementation of the Disha Act, 2019.
