AP Government Issues New YSR Pension Kanuka Guidelines

The Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) Government, on the 18th of December, released a new set of guidelines for the YSR Pension Kanuka in A.P.

Though the scheme was already launched earlier, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) revised some of its guidelines.

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of A.P., announced the new guidelines.

The YSR Pension Kanuka is divided into 12 types:

  • Old Age Pension
  • Weavers Pension
  • Widow Pension
  • Disabled Pension
  • Toddy Tappers Pension
  • ART Pension
  • Transgender Pension
  • Fishermen Pension
  • Single Women Pension
  • CKDU Pension
  • Traditional Cobblers Pension
  • Dappu Artist Pension

Who is eligible for the YSR Pension Kanuka?

According to the new guidelines, rural and urban families having an income of Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 12,000 per month respectively and owning less than 3 acres of agricultural land are eligible.

Families with the above mentioned criteria should not have any four wheelers, except taxis, tractors and autos.  The families’ power consumption should not exceed 300 units per month and no family member should receive a pension from the Government.  Besides, only one member of the eligible family is entitled to receive a pension under the YSR Pension Kanuka, but if the family has 80 % members suffering from any kind of disability, dialysis or mental illness, more than one member could get the pension.

People above 60 years are eligible to apply for YSR Pension Kanuka, whereas for the Scheduled Caste (SC) category, people above 50 years old are eligible. 

Widows above 18 years who have their husbands’ death certificates are eligible to apply for the scheme.

 Physically challenged people with a defect of 40 %, irrespective of their age, can apply for the scheme.

Weavers above 50 years are also eligible if they have a certificate from the handloom for which they work.

Those taking antiretroviral treatment or undergoing dialysis for six months are also eligible for the scheme.

Transgenders above 18 years of age, who have a medical department certificate, are also eligible for the YSR Pension scheme.

Fishers above 50 years with an age certificate by the Department of Fisheries can also avail pension under the scheme. 

Single women, married and separated women, women above 35 years, divorced women and women who are unmarried at age 30 are also eligible for the scheme. 

Citizens of A.P., suffering from thalassemia, sickle cell disease, hemophilia and patients who are critically injured, or suffer from limited paralysis, muscular dystrophy or chronic kidney illnesses could also avail the benefits of the scheme. 

The area commissioners and YSRCP authorities would select the beneficiaries and would provide them cards.

The YSR Pension scheme is expected to be implemented in January 2020.
