The Andhra Pradesh Government, on the 6th of February, cleared the air about Kia Motors  relocating its plant from Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) to Tamil Nadu.

Over the past few days, there were media reports and rumours the Kia Motors automobile plant which was located in Anantapur district of A.P., would shift to Tamil Nadu.

However, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP,) on the 6th of February, issued a press release and cleared the rumours.  Rajat Bhargava, the Special Chief Secretary of Industries and Investment in A.P., said, “KIA and the Government of Andra Pradesh are working together. We strongly condemn the news.”

V. Vijayasai Reddy, a Member of Parliament (MP) of the YSRCP, also said, “The rumours being spread by some media outlets about KIA Motors shifting its plant out of A.P. are absolutely false. Our Government led by Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan garu shares an excellent relationship with KIA and we are fully supportive of their growth plans in A.P.”

On the other hand, Kia Motors released an official statement and said the Company has a long term commitment to the Indian market and the A.P., Government.  The statement also read, “We do not have any plans to shift the manufacturing capacity from the current location.”

While the YSRCP and Kia Motors dismissed all kinds of rumours regarding the shifting of the Kia Motors plant from A.P., Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of A.P., called for a meeting.

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy called for a meeting with the concerned officials of Kia Motors and is expected to discuss the current situation.

The Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led YSRCP also criticised the opposition for spreading such rumours.  On its official handle, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) posted a tweet which read, “What a shame! This is the saddest news of the decade. While one man works day and night to bring in companies and create jobs, another comes and destroys it all within 8 months.”

As of now, Kia Motors does not plan to relocate its plant and would continue the work started in Anantapur in 2019.

Stay tuned for further updates.
