AP Govt Passes Ordinance To Panchayat Raj Act

The Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) Government, on the 20th of February, passed an ordinance ahead of the local bodies elections in the State.

The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government, during a Cabinet meeting decided to pass an ordinance regarding the State local bodies or panchayat elections.

The ordinance was passed in the Cabinet meeting unanimously to curb liquor and money distribution to the voters for votes in an illegal way.

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, chaired the Cabinet meeting and took the decision, amending the existing Panchayat Raj Act, 1994.   According to the passed ordinance, the election campaigns are limited to 5 days only, whereas the local bodies elections would be concluded in 13 days from the day of the election notification.

The official notification regarding the local body elections is expected to be released soon.
