On the 21st of June, the Andhra Pradesh High Court (HC) reviewed two petitions filed regarding the financial dues in the State.

C.K. Erram Reddy and R. Srinivas Rao, the residents of Chittoor and East Godavari respectively, filed two separate petitions. In both the petitions, the petitioners demanded their pending dues for the construction work done in 2018 and 2019 under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) 2005. According to the filed petitions, the Andhra Pradesh Government failed to pay their pending dues.

On Monday, while reviewing the matter, the Andhra Pradesh HC asked the officials regarding the same and the reason for failed payments. In response, the advocate representing the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government said, due to the lack of funds and current financial position of Andhra Pradesh the ruling Government was unable to pay the dues to the petitioners.

In addition, the Andhra Pradesh HC also asked the A.P., Finance Ministry officials and the Panchayat Raj Chief Secretary to submit a detailed report regarding the financial position of the State.

Considering the poor financial situation of the State, the Andhra Pradesh HC asked about the constant saying of the YSRCP Government of shifting the State capitals. The Court further questioned who would come forward to construct the three capitals if the Government fails to clear the dues of the MGNREGA workers.

The next hearing regarding the matter is yet to be announced.

Stay tuned for further updates.
