On Monday, March 23, the AP High Court issued a stay on the distribution of land to the farmers for the Capital region development.

The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government decided to distribute lands to the Amaravati farmers who gave their lands for the Capital development.

The State Government took the decision after the YSRCP proposed three state capitals, Visakhapatnam, Amaravati and Kurnool instead of Amaravati only.

The A.P., High Court, on the 23rd of March, put a stay order on the distribution of land to the villagers and beneficiaries under the YSR Housing Patta welfare scheme.

The decision came after an advocate of the A.P., argued in the High Court that the land collected from the farmers for the construction of the capital Amaravati should not be given to people from other areas, under the scheme.

They said the land pooled for the Capital region should only be given to the poor people of Amaravati.  On the 23rd of March, the HC heard the petition and put a stay order on the distribution. The government has recently issued a total of 1251.5 acres for 54,307 beneficiaries.

Initially, the distribution of the houses were scheduled on the 25th of March, on the occasion of the Ugadi Festival.  However, due to the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus the YSRCP Government rescheduled the distribution on the 14th of April, Ambdekar Jayanti.
