AP Stands 3rd In SDG India Index 2019 Released By NITI Aayog

The Telugu states Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) and Telangana stood third and fifth respectively in the 2019 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) report released by NITI Aayog recently.

Andhra Pradesh secured the 3rd position amongst the 28 states in the list, with its health insurance schemes, clean water, sanitation, justice and strong institutions.

The State scored 67 points and stood first in terms of health insurance coverage of citizens, clean water and sanitation and second in good health and well being, climate action and economic growth.  Besides, Andhra Pradesh stood 6th in terms of generating clean and affordable energy and 17th with regard to tackling gender inequality. 

With all these, A.P., stood 3rd in the 2019 SDG India Index report released on the night of the 1st of January.  While Andhra Pradesh is third, Telangana bagged the 5th position. Telangana scored bonus points for its better provision of electricity, houses covered under electricity and economic growth. 

The State which stood 1st in the list released by the Central Government was Kerala, followed by Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.  Bihar stood last in the 2019 SDG India Index report.

In union territories, Chandigarh stood first in terms of its progress in achieving SDGs during 2019.
