On the night of the 25th of June, 5 accused surrendered themselves and confessed to killing Uma Yadav, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Mangalagiri.

All the 5 accused were identified as Thota Srinu, Saidulu, Panaiah, Gopi and Thota. There are 2 more accused who are absconding.

On the 25th of June, 7 accused allegedly killed Uma Yadav, a member of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) outside his residence in Mangalagiri district, Andhra Pradesh (AP.)

The incident took place around 7:30 P.M., when the accused attacked Uma with a sharp object and stabbed him to death.

According to the Mangalagiri Police, the victim was an accused in a murder case and the attack was suspected to be due to personal rivalry or land disputes.

On the other hand, the TDP leaders claimed there is a political angle behind the murder. They said, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) is targeting the TDP leaders and attacking them since the YSRCP came to power.

N. Chandrababu Naidu, the President of the TDP, said, “We initially wanted to give the new Government of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy six months time. But we can’t remain silent now when our party workers are being threatened and attacked ever since the election results.” He further said, “We have to hit back at them if they are indulging in mudslinging in the name of corruption against our leaders. At the same time, we have to thwart their attacks on our workers.”

The Mangalagiri Police Station filed a complaint against the accused and started an investigation regarding the case.
