On the 18th of May, the Andhra Pradesh Union of working journalists (APUWJ) wrote a letter to Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

According to sources, the letter was an open letter addressed by I.V. Subba Rao, the State President of APUWJ to Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy demanding to consider all the journalists as front line warriors.  In his letter, he urged the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Chief to arrange vaccination for journalists working and their families.  He also asked the Andhra Pradesh Government to provide financial assistance to the families of journalists who lost life due to the Wuhan virus or the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19.l)

I.V. Subba Rao has brought before the Government about the pathetic conditions of the journalists in all the districts.  IV Subba Rao has wanted all the opposition parties, social organisations and others to extend their co-operation in their fight to get justice.

In the past few days, due to the second wave of the Wuhan virus or COVID-19 infection, many journalists reporting from field contracted the virus and lost their lives.

However, as per COVID-19 guidelines and policies, these journalists were not considered as front line warriors and were given no benefit of the same.

Stay tuned for further updates.
