The Andhra Pradesh Government is scheduled to organise a Manavarham event for the conservation of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
The Visakhapatnam Steel Conservation Committee called for the Manavaharam program, a protest event against the privatisation of the VSP. The event is to be held on the 29th of August, with the participation of senior leaders of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party and 10,000 workers of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
According to sources, the conservation programme of the VSP is set to be carried out along a 10 km stretch of the national highway from Aganampudi
The VSCC President Mr. J. Ayodhyaram said the event has been organised at the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) office of Visakhapatnam. In addition, besides the YSRCP, the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Telugu Desam. Party (TDP) also extended their support to the event organised to protest against the VSP Privatisation.
The VSP privatisation is an ongoing issue in Andhra Pradesh. The State Government and the VSP workers are asking the Central Government to roll back their decision and let VSP be in the public sector. In regard to this, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra, asking him to rethink the decision of privatising the years old Public plant into a private one.
However, the Central Government seems stubborn with their decision and said, there is no going back from the privatisation decision.
The VSP privatisation is a major issue of concern for the people of Andhra Pradesh.
