Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister (CM) of Andhra Pradesh (AP,) conducted a review meeting regarding the social, tribal and minority welfare issues in the State.

The review meeting was held on the 29th of August, in Tadepalli, Andhra Pradesh.  Officials of the Tribal Welfare, Social Welfare and Minorities departments attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Jagan Mohan Reddy directed the concerned officials to provide improved facilities at the tribal schools and social welfare hostels in AP.

Mr. Reddy said, “Officials should take initiatives to improve the facilities in residential schools and social welfare hostels in the state, just as one would take care of his/her child’s welfare.”

In addition to this, AP CM announced the State Government is also planning to set up a 9 point facilities welfare scheme which will be implemented in three phases in Andhra Pradesh.

Jagan further said to improvise facilities, there is an urgent need to fill all the 927 vacancies in the social welfare hostels, including cooks, watchmen and other posts.  He also asked to give preference to Scheduled Castes (SCs,) Scheduled Tribes (STs) and minorities for the nominated posts.

Apart from job opportunities, the State Government will provide Rs. 1,870 every year to women above 45 years, belonging to the SCs, STs, Backward Classes (BCs) and minorities, to help them support themselves.

The State Government will also provide uniforms and books to students from the academic year 2020.

Highlighting the welfare activities for the tribal community in AP, Jagan Mohan Reddy asked the officials to construct Saluru Tribal University, Paderu Tribal Medical College and Tribal Engineering College in Kuruppam.  The State Government will also construct 7 hospitals for tribals residing in Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) areas like Araku, Palakonda, Parvathipuram, Rampachodavaram, Chinthuru, KR Puram and Dornala.

The AP Chief Minister also suggested constituting a commission for the welfare of SCs and STs.  He also said the Yuvajana Sramika Rytthu Congress Party will also pass a Bill for the commission during the next Assembly session.

The meeting was solely held for discussing welfare schemes, conditions and the development of the SCs, STs, BCs and tribals of Andhra Pradesh.
