The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Central Government approved the Vijayawada-Nagpur Express Highway construction.
On the 16th of May, Monday, the Central Government approved the construction, which would be done in five phases. The five phases are Vijayawada-Khammam, Khammam-Warangal, and Warangal-Manchiryala, which would be constructed as Greenfield Express Highways. In addition, the other two are Manchiryala-Repallewada, and Repallewada-Chandrapur, which would be constructed as Brownfield Express Highways.
This road connects Chandrapur to Nagpur with the existing 4-lane Express Highway would be 310 km of Greenfield and 147 km of Brownfield Express Highway. The constructed highways would reduce the cost and hassle of traveling between Vijayawada and Nagpur, making travel easy for the people of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
As of now, the distance from Vijayawada to Nagpur is 770 km via Hyderabad and Adilabad. It takes about 13 hours. However, after the construction of this new express highway, the time and cost would reduce by 163 km and five hours.
With the DPR already prepared, the NHAI has expedited consultations with the AP, Telangana, and Maharashtra governments on the land acquisition process. In addition, the Revenue Department is preparing for the acquisition of about 1.65 lakh square meters of land in Vijayawada.
The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party Government is set to complete the tender work by December and the construction of the express highway would be completed by 2025.
