N. Chandrababu Naidu, the President of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) conducted a protest against the Andhra Pradesh (AP) Government.

On the 11th of December, TDP officials, Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs,) led by Naidu, staged a protest near the AP Assembly in Amaravati.

The TDP protested against the hike in fares of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) buses.

While Chandrababu Naidu and the TDP leaders protested outside the AP Assembly, Nara Lokesh protested in an APSRTC bus travelling from Mangalagiri to the Secretariat.

Apart from the TDP, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also criticised the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) for increasing the fares.

The parties said the new prices would affect the poor and the middle class people who rely on APSRTC buses for their daily travel.

The increased fares would affect the people travelling long distances more than those travelling shorter distances as there is no hike in fares for City and ordinary services up to 11 stages, or 22 km.

On the 10th of December, M.T. Krishna Babu, the Vice Chairman and the Managing Director of the APSRTC, released a circular with details about the new bus fares in AP.

As per the circular, the fare for Palle Velugu buses was increased by 10 paise per km, which is applicable after two stages, or 10 km, for passengers.

Besides, fares for Ultra Deluxe and Super Luxury bus services were increased by 20 paise per km, whereas the fares for Indra, Garuda and Amaravati bus services were hiked by 10 paise per km.  However, fares for sleeper services remain the same.

The new fares came into effect from the 11th of December.

Stay tuned for further updates.
