Cyclone Nivar Causes Severe Damage In Andhra Pradesh, 164 Places Recieves 60 mm Rainfall

By the influence of Nivar cyclone on the second day also, normal life in Chittoor district was paralysed. Cyclones have severely disrupted the agriculture and power sectors. Thousands of acres of paddy fields were inundated by the flood water in 30 mandals. Farmers are worried about their agriculture investments losses. Public transport and Power supply were disrupted by the heavy to heavy rains. Between Kadapa and Chittoor Districts, vehicle movement was stopped from Thursday morning because at many places flood water flowed across the National Highway. A landslide incident was reported on Tirumala second ghat road in the morning while few devotees were travelling in bolero jeep. Came to know that landslides had fallen on the vehicle after the incident victims brought this issue to the notice of TTD Vigilance sleuths for rescue.

From Balapalle (Chittoor District )to Railway Koduru (Kadapa District) more than 10 km of traffic jams took place. In addition, more than 500 villages in Tirupati division were inundated by the flood water with knee-deep at many villages. By the incessant rains, seasonal rivers in the district SwarnaMukhi, Kalyani, Araniyar, Palaru , Pincha were received heavy flood flows by the impact of cyclone rains.

All the minor and medium irrigation tanks like Mallemadu, Krishnapuram Project, Araniya, Kalangi, Pedderu, Bhuda , Siddalagandi, Sadasiva kona reservoirs were brimming with flood water. Due to continuous downpour since Wednesday morning people were forced to stay indoors. In the meanwhile Tirupati Urban SP A Ramesh Reddy visited the Swarnamukhi river area in Srikalahasti town and instructed the local police to keep an eye on public movement near river bund.

Specially cyclone damages were in Varadaiahpalem , Sathyavedu, Srikalahasti , Pichatur, BN Kandriga, Thottambedu , Yerpedu, Renigunta and Puttur mandals. Highest rainfall was recorded 163.8 mm in Varadaiahpalem mandal and 153.4 mm was recorded in BN Kandriga as well as Sathyavedu was in third place with 143. 5 mm rainfall.

All the educational institutions were shut down in the district. District Collector N Bharat Gupta conducted teleconferences over the relief operations at inundated villages in VaradaiahPalem , Sathyavedu, Tirupati rural, Yerpedu mandal and the Tirupati Division.

Three persons were stuck in the middle of the Ralla Madugu Canal stream, while they were trying to remove the water pump sets which they had set up in the canal for irrigation. The incident took the support of tree branches to survive in the middle of the stream. After receiving the information, Tirupati RDO Kanaka Narsa Reddy rushed to the spot and started rescue operation by intervention of fire department personnel. The Renigunta DSP Chandrashekar also reached the spot along with his staff. Trees uprooted across the district Number of trees were uprooted in Tirumala hill shrine on Thursday morning, due to this devotees have suffered a lot to move one place to another place in hill town. At many places on the Highways traffic was disrupted due to uprooted trees falling on the road. Police officials have cleared the uprooted trees with support of technical teams time to time. So far no deaths were reported in Chittoor District.k ne

In the past 24 hours till Thursday morning, 164 places in Andhra Pradesh witnessed a rainfall of more than 60 mm as the very severe cyclonic storm Nivar lashed the whole state.

According to the Meteorological department, five places in Nellore district registered the highest rainfall — APFT Colony (302.7 mm), Boggulamitta Ward (272.7 mm), MPP School (264 mm), Summer storage tank (242.7 mm) and Thatipatri (239.5 mm).

Chittoor district Collector Narayan Bharat Gupta said an average of 8.6 cm rainfall lashed a few places in the district on Wednesday.
