The Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) of Andhra Pradesh, on the 20th of August, issued a notice regarding a flood in Andhra Pradesh (AP.)

According to the RTGS officials, areas like Sabari and Indravati and those in the lower basin of Godavari, are expected to be flooded.  On the other hand, Coastal AP and Rayalaseema will receive heavy rainfall for two to three days.

However, the Irrigation Department of Andhra Pradesh denied there are chances of flooding and said, “At present, the floodwater flow in the river is at its minimum in the flood season. Light to moderate rain expected in upper catchment areas of the river might not cost any problem or floods. There is no reason to fear. However, we are monitoring the situation closely.”

The areas which were affected by the recent Krishna river floods are expected to be affected by the Godavari floods as well.

According to the forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on the 21st of August, around 5:30 A.M., “The north-south trough from the centre of above Low Pressure area to north Tamil Nadu across Odisha & north Coastal Andhra Pradesh extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level persists (sic.)”  Due to the low pressure influence, it is expected some areas of AP will experience heavy rainfall.

As a precautionary measure, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) decided to distribute regular commodities like rice, kerosene, pulses, oil and vegetables to the people.

Stay tuned for further updates.
