The Government of India (GoI,) on the 7th of August, issued a notice to the Andhra Pradesh (AP) Government, regarding the environmental violations taking place during the construction of the Polavaram Project.
In the notice, the Central Government sought an explanation from the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP,) the Government of AP, regarding the same.
The Center asked the State Government to explain why the construction of the Purushothapatnam Lift Irrigation Project did not stop after the orders of the GoI.
According to the orders, due to the environmental violations taking place, the construction of the Purushothapatnam Project must be stopped.
The Ministry of Environment and Forests issued the notice to the AP Government and alleged it of violating the environmental rules. The Purushothapatnam Lift Irrigation is a part of the Polavaram Project, situated on the Godavari river.
The Environment and Forests Department officials filed an affidavit with the National Green Tribunal on the 22nd of July regarding the same.
The State Government was asked to explain its action within a few days.
