Andhra Pradesh is likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall for the next two days, predicted the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD.)

On the 20th of September, the IMD issued a rain alert in Andhra Pradesh’s coastal region and low lying areas.  According to the IMD, a low pressure area has formed in the northwest and west central Bay of Bengal, associated with a surface trough.  The trough is extending over the west central Bay of Bengal at an altitude of 5.8 km above mean sea level, a major cause behind the predicted rainfall.

The trough would strengthen further and become a severe depression by Tuesday, the 20th of September evening, travelling towards Madhya Pradesh via Odisha.  Due to the influence of low pressure, moderate rains are likely to occur in north coastal Andhra districts with a possibility of gusty winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour along the coast.

The rainfall is expected on the 20th and the 21st of September, said the Meteorological department.  The weather officials even advised fishermen not to go fishing in the sea and urged the people to stay home instead of venturing in rain.

Notably, a rain alert has been issued for Eluru city, West Godavari, Dendulur, Ungutur and Kaikaluru constituencies.
