The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted heavy to moderate rainfall in the coastal region of Andhra Pradesh, for the next two months.

In a forecast released on the 1st of December,Thursday, the State Weather Department said, as an impact of winter in the country, the Telugu State of Andhra Pradesh would have minimum temperature with rainfall for the next two months, from December to February.

The prediction also mentioned that the minimum temperature would be below normal in many parts of southern states including Andhra Pradesh this winter.  In the next two months (December and January), there is a possibility of very cold winds.

Mr. Rallapalli Muralikrishna, a retired officer of the Meteorological Department, said, “In this season, compared to Rayalaseema and South Coastal Andhra, it will be colder in North Andhra and Agency areas.”

On the other hand, the northeast monsoon season which started in October would end in December this time, bringing rain and extreme cold weather for the Telugu State of Andhra Pradesh.

Another major reason behind the rainfall is extreme low pressure, which is to be formed in the South Andaman Sea adjacent to the Southeast Bay of Bengal.  The low pressure would surface towards west north west and would strengthen as a cyclone in 48 hours from the 5th of December.

In addition, the IMD also revealed that the cyclone is expected to reach the shores of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on the 8th of December, bringing cold weather and rain in that region too.

Its impact is likely to be high over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and moderate over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
