On the 7th of August, Indian Health Ministry confirmed 62,482 new cases of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.

With the new biggest spike ever in the COVID-19 cases, India crossed 2 millions or 20 lakh cases.

According to the Ministry of Home and Family Welfare (MoHFW) India has 20,23,821 positive cases till date.

Of the total, there are 6,07,384 active cases, 13,78,206 are recovered/discharged cases and 41,581 deceased.

Despite the everyday rise of the minimum 50,000 cases, India is performing better in terms of recovery. With 49,769 recovery cases, India’s recovery rate increased to 67.62 % from the previous 67.33%. However, the average growth of infection is highest in India at 3%.

This is the 10th consecutive day that COVID-19 cases have increased by more than 50,000 with consistent increase in recovery rate.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) a total of 2,27,34,134 samples have been tested till the 4th of August.

In the past 24 hours, India conducted a total of 5,74,783 sample tests.

Two states showing the biggest single day hike in the COVID-19 cases are Maharashtra and Andhra pradesh.

Maharashtra on the 6th of August, recorded its highest single day spike of 11,514 Coronavirus cases. Its tally now stands at 4,79,779.

Andhra Pradesh is also inching closer to 2,00,000 mark. It has added over 10,000 fresh cases for a second day in a row on the 6th of August.

Four most affected states by total tally of cases are Maharashtra (4,79,779,) followed by Tamil Nadu (2,79,144,) Andhra Pradesh (1,96,789) and Karnataka (1,58,254.)
