Two days after the textile association, the Jewellers Association also decided to shut shops in Hyderabad till the 5th of July.

On the 27th of June, Ashok Jain, the President of the Jewellers Association in Hyderabad said, they decided to shut shops from the 28th of June till the 5th of July. 

The decision was taken in the wake of the massive increase of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 in Telangana. 

Mr. Jain said, “General Bazar witnesses heavy crowd with people from various places come for the shopping and is very difficult to follow physical distancing. In the view of the customer’s and traders’ safety, the decision has been taken voluntarily. (sic.)”

Ashok Jain asked people to cooperate with them to contain the spread of the Novel Coronavirus.

The Secunderabad Gold Silver Jewellery and Diamond Merchants Association and other associations in Abids, Punjagutta and the Old city have also announced the closure of their shops due to the increasing Coronavirus cases. 

Besides shops, Laad Bazar in Charminar also closed after it emerged as a Coronavirus hotspot.   In addition, Begum Bazar, Kishan Gunj, Maharaj Gunj, Bartan Bazar and other wholesale markets in Hyderabad and Secunderabad were also closed. 

Approximately 5,000 shops announced to close from the 28th of June, as a precautionary measure, not to be infected from the Novel Coronavirus.

The decision to do so was taken by the associations as they did not want to risk the lives of shopkeepers, workers and customers. 

Apart from jewellery and textile, sanitary dealers’ association in Hyderabad and Secunderabad also decided to shut the shops till the 5rh of July. 

Deepak Gupta, the President of the Sanitary Association, said, “All the dealers have agreed to close their shops to contain the virus spread.”

Meanwhile, Telangana witnessed a big spike in the Novel Coronavirus cases on the 26th of June. 

In the past 24 hours, Telangana reported as many as 900 plus cases and stood at 12,349 cases.
