On the 23rd of August, two thieves entered the residence of Kodela Siva Prasada Rao, the former Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and stole two computers, which belonged to the AP Assembly.

The incident was reported by Kodela’s watchman, who said around 1:00 A.M., on the 23rd of August, two men entered the house, saying they are electricians.  He further said the men allegedly stole two computers and when the watchman tried to catch them, they pushed him and ran away.

Although the watchman said it was a robbery, the incident raised several questions about Kodela Siva Prasada Rao, who allegedly stole the AP Assembly’s furniture.

According to sources, Kodela allegedly kept the furniture, AC and the computers of the AP Assembly at his residence without permission, when they were shifted from Hyderabad to Amaravati.

The Secretary of AP filed a complaint against Kodela for relocating the property of the AP Assembly to his residence.  He even sent a legal notice to Kodela, seeking an explanation for the same.

However, Kodela denied the allegations and justified his act by saying, “The furniture and computers would have got spoilt in the temporary premises, and I only shifted them to ensure their protection. I am ready to hand over the furniture or whatever cash they require.”  He admitted to shifting a few items to his residence and said, “As there was elections in the state and many things after that, I had gotten busy. I got a letter from the Assembly Secretary asking about the furniture and computers. I replied, stating that I would send the electronic items and furniture back and if needed I’m even willing to pay the price of the items, as we have used them (sic.)”

The incident gave a chance to the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) to criticise the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and its leaders.

The YSRCP leaders said, “If a common man does things like this, what would you call it? Would you not call it theft?”

Kanna Babu, the Agriculture Minister of AP, asked the TDP members, “Should the furniture and items come to the assembly building here or his home?”

However, the robbery at Kodela’s house came just a day after he admitted he shifted a few items to his residence.

There is no evidence yet to prove whether the robbery was caused by Kodela or was a coincidence.

The Andhra Pradesh Police filed a complaint regarding the same and started an investigation.

Stay tuned for further updates.
