N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (AP,) on the 2nd of April, attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi by criticising his leadership and Government.

Mr. Naidu, during an interview with the PTI, said, “Any leader could be ‘a better prime minister than Modi’” and a PM should be “a statesman and not a narrow minded leader like him.”

Mr. Naidu said, the anti Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance across India has better leadership skills and could do better than Modi. In addition, he also said, Modi and the Modi led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) are misusing their powers against those Parties which raise their voices against them.

The comment was made after Modi ordered for multiple raids to be held at politicians’ properties and filed cases against them across India.

Moving further, Naidu also alleged Modi of not providing the Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh. He said, in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Modi promised the citizens of AP the SCS would be granted to the State, but he did not fulfill this promise.

Andhra Pradesh is demanding the SCS since the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014, as a part of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) which is also the ruling Party of Andhra Pradesh, is the strongest party in the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Pradesh will contest a total of 25 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, which are scheduled on the 11th of April.

The major parties contesting the Andhra Pradesh Lok Sabha elections are the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP,) the JanaSena Party, the TDP, the INC and the BJP.

The results of the Andhra Pradesh Lok Sabha elections will be declared on the 23rd of May 2019.
