Potluri Vara Prasad (PVP,) a member of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP,) commented about the Special Category Status (SCS) of Andhra Pradesh.

PVP, on the 20th of March, during a meeting with an industrialist, said, he does not want to make any comment regarding the issue as it is boring. He even referred to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) members and said, the opposition Party talked about it several times and he does not want to do the same.

The comments of PVP were considered sensational and drew a lot of criticism from the TDP members.

Kesineni Nani, a Member of Parliament (MP) in the Vijayawada constituency and a TDP member, claimed, PVP is an international criminal and has no respect for people’s emotions.

However, PVP denied the allegations and said, his words were used in the wrong context.

C.P.I. Ramakrishna, a member of the TDP, challenged Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the President of the YSRCP, to withdraw PVP’s name as a candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh. He also asked PVP to give an apology for his comments.

The sensational comments of PVP could be a hurdle for the YSRCP as the SCS is a major issue in Andhra Pradesh.

The citizens of Andhra Pradesh want the SCS since the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh into the State of Telangana and the State of Andhra Pradesh in 2014, under the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014.

However, the BJP denied giving the SCS to Andhra Pradesh.

To gain the SCS is one of the main agendas of the TDP for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Pradesh will contest a total of 25 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, scheduled on the 11th of April 2019.

The major parties contesting the elections are the TDP, the YSRCP and the JanaSena Party.

The results of the Andhra Pradesh Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.

Stay tuned for further updates about the Lok Sabha elections.
