Major Highlights of AP Government’s Cabinet Meeting

The Andhra Pradesh Government, on the evening of the 11th of December, conducted a Cabinet meeting and took several key decisions for the welfare of the citizens of Andhra Pradesh (AP.)

Chaired by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of AP, the Cabinet meeting was held at the AP Secretariat in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh. 

During the meeting, the AP Government proposed a law for the security and safety of women and children.  The Act was named in the memory of Disha, who was raped and murdered in Telangana.

According to the AP Disha, Bill, 2019, cases of atrocities against women must be heard and closed within 21 days and death penalty must be given in the required cases.  The YSRCP announced it would make legislation amendments to the Andhra Pradesh Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2019 and the Andhra Pradesh Special Court for Specified Offences Against Women and Children Act, 2019.

The YSRCP Government is expected to table the AP Disha Bill, 2019 during the ongoing session of the AP Assembly.

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of AP, directed the officials to set up a new department and hire village and ward volunteers and secretariats under this department for functioning.

Apart from a new law for women and children, the YSRCP Government also approved the setting up of a Public Transport Department for merging the Andhra Pradesh State Transport Corporation (APSRTC) with the State Government.

The new Public Transport Department, including the roads, highways, buildings and other departments, would also recruit 51,488 employees of the APSRTC.

Another major decision taken during the Cabinet meeting was revising the guidelines of the YSR Pension Scheme.  The Cabinet also approved the Andhra Pradesh Millet Board Act, 2019 and decided to establish a board to increase the cultivation of cereals in areas affected by drought and heavy rainfall.

Apart from that, the YSRCP Government also drafted the Andhra Pradesh Pulses Board Bill, 2019

It also approved the Andhra Pradesh Goods and Services Tax Amendment Bill and the Andhra Pradesh Tax on Profession, Trade, Callings and Employment Amendment Bill, 2019.

Other major decisions taken during the Cabinet meeting were:

Allotting 15.28 acres of land to the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) for an industrial park in Pamuru village, Yerpedu mandal, Chittoor district.

Making Telugu a mandatory subject in all schools in the State.  The medium of instruction should be English for class 1 to 6 from the next academic year.

Cancelling the residential and commercial plots given to landowners if they provide the assigned land for land pooling in the State Capital.

Allotting residential and commercial plots to the original landowners.

Amending the AP State University Act.

Setting up a YSR Architecture and Fine Arts University in Kadapa district.

Amending the law to appoint the Chairman of AP State Council of Higher Education or his representative as an ex officio member of all the universities in AP.

Setting up a Cluster University by merging the Silver Jubilee Degree College, the K.V.R. Government Degree College and the Government Degree College in Kurnool.
