Motkupalli Narsimhulu, a former senior leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) on the 4th of November, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)
He joined the Party in the presence of Amit Shah, the Home Minister of India and the President of the BJP, J.P. Nadda, the Working President of the BJP, K. Laxman, the President of the BJP in Telangana and other BJP leaders, during an event in Delhi.
The reason behind Motkupalli joining the BJP was a rift between him and Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the President of the TDP. According to sources, both the leaders had a rift after the 2014 elections, however, it was publically visible when, during the 2019 elections, Motkupalli Narsimhulu criticised Chandrababu Naidu.
Motkupalli joining the BJP is said to be a major drawback for the TDP as he was a strong leader of the Dalit community.
Motkupalli Narsimhulu is not the first leader to shift his loyalty. In the past few days, many other TDP leaders switched to either the BJP or the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP.)
