The Supreme Court, on the 26th of September, Monday, denied bail to Mr. Devireddy Shiva Shankar Reddy, the prime accused in the Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy murder case.
Notably Devireddy Shiva Shankar Reddy allegedly conspired the murder of Mr. Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, the uncle of Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. As per the Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) probe, in 2017, Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy contested from Kadapa district and won on the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) ticket, which Devireddy was eyeing. The tussle between the two leaders started since then, when in 2019, Devireddy along with one Yera Gangi Reddy and close associate killed Mr. Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy.
While Yerra Gangi Reddy and others were arrested earlier in 2019, the CBI arrested Devireddy Shiva Shankar Reddy in 2021. He has been under police custody since then and filed for bail twice.
Recently after the Andhra Pradesh High Court, rejected his bail plea, Devireddy Shiva Shankar Reddy moved the Apex Court.
However, the SC bench also made it clear that they did not see any valid reasons for granting bail and could not interfere in the judgment given by the High Court. The Supreme Court said, “In the present circumstances it cannot interfere in this case.”
