On the 18th of December, the Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) Government, replaced the security cover of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of A.P.
Previously, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had Greyhounds Commandos’ security cover. However, now, Jagan Mohan Reddy would have an advanced Organisation for Counter Terrorist Operations (OCTOPUS) security cover.
The decision to strengthen Jagan Mohan Reddy’s security was taken after a review meeting with the Security Review Committee, headed by Gautam Sawang, the Director General of Police, Andhra Pradesh.
OCTOPUS is a special unit for counter terrorist operations in A.P., and is squad of 32 personnel, divided into five teams. There would be 6 personnel in each team.
The Police and YSRCP officials did not reveal the reason for the security upgrade.
However, the decision to enhance the security came after Jagan Mohan Reddy announced Andhra Pradesh would have 3 capitals—Visakhapatnam, Kurnool and Amaravati.
The OCTOPUS security cover would be with Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy 24X7.
