Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, a member of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) is expected to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)
According to sources, the BJP launched Operation Akarsh to attract the leaders in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to strengthen the Party’s power in the two Telugu states.
With the newly launched operation, the BJP is trying to be the most powerful party in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, who joined the TDP with a hope of becoming the chief of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD,) is now set to join the BJP.
After the defeat of the TDP in the 2019 AP Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, the reduction of Party members could be a major setback for the leaders.
In the 2019 AP elections, the TDP secured only 23 Assembly and 3 Parliament seats, whereas the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP,) with 150 Assembly and 23 Parliament seats, formed the State Government.
The news of Rao switching parties came after his recent statement, which clarified he would join the BJP very soon.
Recently, on the 20th of July, Ram Madhav, the General Secretary of the BJP, visited the residence of Rayapati. On the same day, Rayapati also hosted a dinner for BJP leaders at his residence.
If Rayapati joins the BJP, the Party will have a stronghold in the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, as Rayapati is one of the strong members of the TDP.
However, an official announcement about Rayapati joining the BJP is yet to be made.
