On the 17th of May, the Supreme Court (SC) reviewed the bail petition of Member of Parliament (MP) Raghurama Krishna Raju.
After the Andhra Pradesh High Court (HC,) on the 15th of May rejected the bail plea of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) MP, Mr. Raghurama Krishna Raju, he approached the SC. During the court hearing, the SC directed the Andhra Pradesh Government to conduct medical tests for MP Raghu Rama Krishna Raju at a Military Hospital in Secunderabad. His health is a matter of concern and priority due to his recent bypass surgery. The YSRCP MP underwent a critical heart surgery four months ago and was on a recovery process.
The Apex Court also directed the Telangana High Court to appoint a judicial official to supervise the MP’s entire medical examination process and video record the same. The recorded process would be submitted to the Supreme Court in a sealed cover, following which the Court would decide upon the bail plea of Mr. Raghurama Krishna Raju.
The YSRCP MP was arrested in a sedition case. He called out to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and demanded a cancellation of bail against the YSRCP Chief Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy. He was arrested from his residence in Hyderabad for allegedly acting in a way detrimental to the prestige of the state government. He was registered under Sections 124A (sedition,) 153A (Promoting enmity between different groups,) and 505 (conducting public mischief.)
He was presented before the VI Additional Magistrate on the 16th of May and was sent to Guntur Jail in Andhra Pradesh.
However, as per the direction of the SC, Raghurama Krishna Raju would be taken to Secunderabad for his health check up.
The next hearing related to Raghurama Krishna Raju’s bail plea has been scheduled for the 21st of May.
