SEC Ramesh Kumar Clarifies On MPTC And ZPTC Elections, Says Next SEC Would Conduct Polls

N. Ramesh Kumar, the outgoing State Election Commissioner of Andhra Pradesh, clarified about the Mandal Parishad Territorial Council (MPTC) and the Zila Parishad Territorial Council (ZPTC) elections.

On the 24th of March, Mr. Ramesh Kumar said, it is not possible to conduct the ZPTC and the MPTC elections during his tenure. His tenure is going to end on the 31st of March, hence the new SEC would conduct the elections.

The statement of Ramesh Kumar was after recent petitions filed against the A.P., SEC for not conducting the MPTC and the ZPTC elections before the 31st of March.

However, the A.P., High Court (HC) said it would not interfere in the State Election Commission (SEC) matters and left the decision with the SEC. The High Court also directed the SEC to file a counter affidavit in the court regarding the MPTC and the ZPTC elections. The next hearing in the matter is scheduled to be held on the 30th of March.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Government led by the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) selected three names to be the new SEC. Nilam Sawhney, Premchandra Reddy and Samuel Anand were the names sent to the A.P., Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan. Though Nilam Sawhney is almost finalised name as the next SEC, the final decision would be taken by the State Governor. Following the decision of the Governor, the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led Government would announce the next SEC of Andhra Pradesh on the 31st of March.

Stay tuned for further updates.
