Nandamuri Balakrishna, a Tollywood actor and a newly elected Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Hindupur constituency, is scheduled to tour Amaravati and its 29 villages.
On the 16th of January, Balakrishna, a member of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) along with his wife Vasudhara, daughter Brahmani and son in law Lokesh, would visit Amaravati and its villages. The one day visit is planned to meet the farmers of Amaravati who are protesting against the State Government for proposing 3 State capitals and express solidarity with them.
Balakrishna and his family would also participate in hunger strikes and dharnas which started on the 17th of December after the State Government announced its proposal. During the Winter Session of the A.P. Assembly, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of A.P., proposed to have 3 State capitals. Since then, the farmers of 29 villages of Amaravati are protesting and are on a hunger strike.
The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) proposed Visakhapatnam, Amaravati and Kurnool as the State’s capitals.
However, a final decision regarding the State capitals would be taken during a special State Assembly session scheduled on the 20th of January, 2020.
