In Telangana’s Asifabad, 31 students fell ill and were admitted to a hospital on the night of the 19th of September, Monday.
According to sources, the students of a Kagaznagar Minority Residential School in Kumurabheem-Asifabad district fell ill, likely to be due to food poisoning. The students complained of stomach ache and started vomiting after having dinner at the residential school hostel.
After receiving the information, the police immediately rushed to the spot and shifted the students to a hospital in the police vehicle. The incident raised alarms regarding the services and quality of food being provided to the students. In the complaint, students mentioned the hostel authorities provided low quality food and added they found small insects in the rice. A student said, “We have been finding small insects in the rice being served to us for the last three days. We have complained to the management and asked them to resolve this problem. But our pleas fell on deaf ears. As a result, our friends are now hospitalised.”
Notably, the school administration refused to comment about the incident.
This is not the first such food poisoning incident being reported at welfare schools. The cases are increasing day by day, which is a concern for the students and their families. Recently, a girl died at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Kagaznagar, after she fell sick due to suspected contaminated food.
Meanwhile, the Asifabad Police registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter.
