Members of Parliament (MPs) of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS,) on the 12th of December, met Nirmala Sitharaman, the Finance Minister of India, in Delhi.

The meeting was scheduled to discuss the economic downturn in Telangana, with a demand for the Central Government to release the pending amount allocated to the State for development.

K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, even wrote a letter on the 12th of December to Ms. Sitharaman and urged her to release the pending funds.

Nama Nageshwara Rao, along with other TRS MPs, urged Ms. Sitharaman to release the outstanding Goods Service Tax (GST) dues to Telangana for the 2019-2020 fiscal year.

TRS leaders said they would pressure the Central Government to release the funds for the growth and development of the State.

K. Keshava Rao, the MP in Rajya Sabha representing the TRS, along with MPs of Lok Sabha such as G. Ranjith Reddy, V. Lakshmikanta Rao, Santosh Kumar, B. Baswanthrao Patil, Pasunuri Dayakar and Banda Prakash, attended the meeting with Ms. Sitharaman.

According to official statistics, Telangana witnessed a downfall in revenue by Rs. 838 crores in October 2019.  The officials mentioned Rs. 4,531 crores of Goods Service Tax (GST) are yet to be released to Telangana from the Center, due to which the State recorded a GST revenue reduction of Rs. 2,332 crores.

However, the TRS Government assured it would start working on the instructions given by KCR to resolve the financial downturn in the State.  Meanwhile, they would also try to pressure the Central Government to release the funds.
